NAMI Family-to-Family is for families, caregivers and friends of individuals with mental illness. The course is designed to facilitate a better understanding of mental illness, increase coping skills, and empower participants to become advocates for their family members. The course consists of 12 two-and-a-half hour sessions. Trained family members teach the course who know what it is like to have a loved one living with mental illness. The Family-to-Family Program is offered at no cost to the participants.

NAMI Northwoods will offer its NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program for the winter, beginning Wednesday, February 7th, 2018. It will be held from 6:00 – 8:30 at Grace United Church, 535 S 3rd Ave. Wausau, WI

Registration by January 31st, 2018 is required.   Note: A minimum of 10 attendees is required to hold the class.  If there isn’t enough to hold the class at this time, you will be notified and a future class will be scheduled.

Please be prepared to attend at least 10 of the 12 sessions.

Feb. 7th- Class 1: Introduction to family education.

Feb 14th- Class 2: Understanding Schizophrenia and Mood Episodes; Getting through Critical Periods of Crisis.

Feb 21st- Class 3: Types and Subtypes of Mood Disorders; Borderline Personality Disorder; Panic Disorder, OCD; PTSD; Co-occurring brain and addictive disorders; telling our stories.

Feb 28th- Class 4: Basics about brain biology and the causes of brain disorders; individual stages of adaptation to the trauma of mental illness.

March 7th- Class 5: Problem Solving Workshop.

March 14th- Class 6: Medication Review.

March 21st- Class 7: Empathy: Inside mental illness.

March 28th- Class 8: Communication Skills Workshop.

April 4th- Class 9: Self-care.

April 11th- Class 10: Rehabilitation: Making choices for recovery.

April 18th- Class 11: Fighting Stigma; Advocacy.

April 25th- Class 12: Evaluation, Certification, and Celebration.
